1969 Ampeg Scroll style fretless

This bass, while not an Ampeg, is based on the Ampeg Scroll basses from this era

This unidentified instrument is believed to be German made, and is the actual instrument featured on page 169 of the Ultimate Guitar Book by Tony Bacon (Dorling Kindersley 1991)

The bass has a hollow body, and a set neck with an unlined ebony fingerboard. There are side dots at the 5th and 12th positions. This is an extra long scale bass - 39" ! (see last photo for size comparison with a Stingray)

From 1981 to 2002 this bass was owned by Rod Clements, who is best known as a member of British folk rock band "Lindisfarne". The letter of authenticity that came with the bass, signed by Rod, explains that he used this bass on stage with Lindisfarne from 1981 to 1985, and recorded with it on Kathryn Tickell's 1986 album "Borderlands". The bottom photo is of Rod on stage with Lindisfarne in December 1982 at Newcastle City Hall in England, courtesy of Lindisfarne Fan Club #38 ticket holder Julia.
