1976 Musicman Stingray fretless
An amazing find on consignment in a local music store here in Adelaide
The body has a 1977 date stamp, while the rosewood fingerboard neck is dated 1976. As far as can be determined, this is the first fretless Stingray neck known to exist.
The original white nitrocellulose finish has aged to butterscotch. The original pickguard is black, but I also like the look of tort with this bass.
This instrument originally belonged to Todd Hunter, from the band "Dragon", who had a string of hits during the 70's and 80's in Australia and New Zealand. Todd has contacted me to confirm that the bass was fretted when he owned it, which means that the fretless neck was added later.
